ABSTRACT

Of the orthopedic visits performed on birds at HCV-UFRGS, 86% are fractures, and approximately 30% of them are comminuted with expressive bone loss, justifying the importance of the use of grafts in bird fractures. The objective of this work was to test two allografts and a synthetic HADC graft on finishing in Gallus gallus domesticus. 30 laying hens were used, divided in three groups: frozen allograft in ultrafreezer (UFG); frozen allograft in liquid nitrogen (LNG); calcium deficient synthetic hydroxyapatite graft (HAG). The three graft groups were exposed to serial radiographs until the 90 postoperative days, as well as the histological examination at the end of the experiment were: LNG 61.67±21.79 days (90% consolidation), UFG 47.14±13.50 days (70% consolidation) and HAG 70±18.17 days (60% consolidation). There was a significant difference in bone healing time between GUF and GHA. Histologically, GUF grafts were the ones that were in the most advanced consolidation. LNG allografts were superior in filling ulnar bone failure of fowl.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Objective To treat calcaneal fracture with plate fixation combined with 64-slice CT 3D reconstruction and to analyze the efficacy. Methods Totally 86 patients with Sanders Ⅲ and Ⅳ types of calcaneal fractures underwent surgical treatment, and 64-slice CT 3D reconstruction was used to record the length, height, width,Bohler angle and Gissane angle of calcaneus before and 1 d,2 d,3 d and 1 a after the treatment.Postoperative evaluation was executed based on AOFAS Ankle Hindfoot Scale. Results All the fractures healed,of which, there were 60 ones scored as excellence,19 ones in good condition and 7 ones in satisfactory condition with the excellence and goodness rate being 91.9%.Complications occurred in 4 patients, with 3 cases of delayed healing and one case of infection.Tbere were obviously differences between the lengths, heights, widths,Bohler angles and Gissane angles before and after the treatment, while the differences were not significant between the measured values 1 d and 1 a after the treatment. Conclusion 64-slice CT 3D reconstruction is an excellent clinical auxiliary tool, and is of great value for fracture typing, operational plan preparation, postoperative evaluation and late efficacy assessment.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss clinical results of self-made anatomical dynamic hip lock plate (ADHLP) in treatment of intertrochanteric fractures. Methods ADHLP was applied in 73 patients in-eluding 52 males and 21 females at age range of 19-92 years ( mean 54.7 years). Fractures were caused by traffic accidents in 32 patients, sllp in 21, fall from height in nine and other factors in 11. According to the Evans' s classification system, there were 42 patients with type Ⅰ fractures, 17 with type Ⅱ, nine with type Ⅲ and five with type Ⅳ. Self-made ADHLP was applied to manage various fractures with differ-ent operation strategies. The curative effect of ADHLP was observed for evaluation of ADHLP. Results The operation lasted for mean 60 minutes (40-90 minutes). The volume of blood loss was mean 200 ml (100-400 ml). All patients were followed up for 6-48 months (average 36 months), which showed that the function of hips was satisfactory, with excellence rate of 99%. There were no complications like coxa yam, femoral head eoncis, rotation displacement, iatrogenic fracture, infection or internal fixation break and loosening. Conclusions ADHLP takes advantages of reasonable vitodynamics, wide operation in-dicatioas, convenient operation, minor trauma, fast recovery, stable fixation and few complications for in-tertrochantefie fractures, especial]y osteoporotie and gemntal patients.

ABSTRACT

[Objective] To compare anatomical dynamic hip lock plate with Gamma nail internal fixation in terms of the early intermediate clinical effect of the unstable intertrochanteric femoral fractures. [Methods]From January 2003 to August 2008, 69 patients with unstable intertrochanteric femoral fractures were fixed with plate (n=34)and Gamma nail(n=35).They were randomized into two treatment groups.A retrospective comparison was made between the two differet fixation devices in terms of operation time, blood loss, intraoperative and postoperative complications, frequency of exposure to X-ray,healing time of fracture and functional recovery of hip-joint.[Results]Comparing with Gamma nail, cases with anatomical dynamic hip lock plate experienced fewer X-ray during operation and had fewer postoperative complications, and the differences had statistical significance(P

ABSTRACT

[Objective]To investigate the effects of self-contrive antomical dynamic hip lock plate(ADHLP) in fixation of intertrochanteric fracture.[Method]Seventy-three cases (male 52,female 21) of intertrochanteric fracture were treated by internal fixation with ADHLP.The age were from 19~92y,average 54.7y.Traumatic causes:traffic accident,32 cases;pedesteian tumble,21 cases;fall from height,9 cases;other reasons,11 cases. According to the evans' classification:type Ⅰ,42 cases;type Ⅱ,17 cases;type Ⅲ,9 cases;type Ⅳ,5cases.[Result]Operating time averaged 60 minutes(ranged from 40~90 minutes). Blood loss in operation:average 200 ml (ranged from 100~400 ml).Complication was not found,(such as:coxa vara;femoral head concis;rotation displacement;infection;re-fracture;lock plate broken or loosening,et al.).All cases were followed-up from 6 to 48 months, average 36 months. The function of all hips were satisfactory. The excellent and good rate was 98.6%.[Conclusion]ADHLP in fixation of intertrochanteric fracture is accord with the demands of biomechanism,The indication is widespread, applicable for osteoporotic patients or old patients mespecial. This operation is simple and reliable, with little invasive injury and less blood losing.
